The Foscam FI9831W Megapixel Wireless IP Camera features high definition 1280 x 960p video resolution, h.264 video compression, built-in DVR via SD card (upto 32gb), two-way audio, wifi-N capability, pan/tilt, remote internet viewing, motion detection, night-vision as well as network video recording capability. In addition, it is smartphone compatible (iPhone, Android – app required) as well as viewable over the internet using standard browsers on PC (Firefox, IE & Chrome) or Mac (Safari only). The camera functions well as a smartphone baby, pet or elderly parent monitor or as part of a complete home/office security system with remote internet monitoring ability.
I wanted to buy a surveillance camera for my baby and I wanted something that I can recycle the usage in couple of years. A baby phone it makes sense at first sight but when my baby grow older I won’t be needing of the baby phone, I thought an IP camera would be a better purchase specially that I can use it later as a security surveillance of my house.
I purchased a FOSCAM FI9831W black edition that I installed it and would like to share the experience!
Unpacking the FOSCAM FI9831W
The box includes the following:
- Foscam Wireless IP Camera
- Wifi Antenna
- User Manual
- Installation CD
- Mounting Bracket
- Network Cable
- DC Power Supply 5v
The camera’s shell has a smooth hard plastic and a compact retractable Ethernet cable that I liked very much.
I am not going to list all the features and the characteristics that you can find already on the foscam.us website, What imported for me was the compatibility: smartphone compatible (iPhone, Android – app required) as well as viewable over the internet using standard browsers on PC (Firefox, IE & Chrome) or Mac (Safari only).
It is almost multi platform (what about Linux OS? )
The setup is pretty easy by using the “Quick Installation Guide” that you find on the CD as well as the “IP Camera Search Tool”.
I tested it on Safari from my mac it works perfectly and from an iPhone (4S) with the “IP Camera Search Tool” application, free on the app store, you can control the camera and move it by swiping your fingers and activating the mic and sound to hear and send vocal messages (very cool).
It has a free DDNS for those like me who doesn’t have public fixed IP, so you can reach your camera and monitor from your mobile or the web browser.
I’ve tested the night vision mode and it’s amazing
